Oral Surgery

Getting really nervous?  Calm down a little and read on before panic gets you too badly.  Oral surgery covers any treatment which involves the removal or repositioning of oral tissues.  It could be from a single tooth removal to jaw repositioning.  Below will be a short list of some of the oral surgical procedures we do in our office

Extractions.  "Pulling teeth" comes under the sugical heading, no matter how many or how few.  At time, the best treatment is to seperate a patient from a tooth or teeth.  Although many offices to not do extractions, it is an area in which we routinely handle most cases for our patients.
Third molars.  "Wisdom teeth" often need to be extracted due to infection problems or lack of space.  Many third molars are within a range that Dr. Durbin often removes unless there are special circumstances or major sedation is required.
Ridge preparation.  If a patient is going to have prosthetic replacement for teeth, such as a denture, the bone needs to be properly shaped.   Often this treatment is accomplished at the time of tooth removal, but sometimes as a seperate treatment.  If the tissue will not accept the prosthesis well, then routine soreness and poor tolerance usually result.
Other - complete dental care may require other, less frequently done, sugical treatments.  In these cases, some are referred and some are done in-house.  We'll leave further discussion for in the office itself because there is no way to be specific here.
